Typical project types

  • Domestic solar PV installations
  • Battery and inverter access works
  • Solar repair and panel replacement
  • Light commercial roof-mount PV
  • Multi-property solar contracts

Guideline pricing

Real-world ranges we quote across London and the Home Counties — use as a sanity check, not a quote.

Single elevation, semi-detached PV install£550 – £850
Rear + gable elevation£800 – £1,200
Detached property full PV scaffold£1,100 – £1,800

Prices exclude VAT and any required highways licences. Send photos for a fixed quote in the working day.

What affects the cost

  • Eaves height and roof pitch
  • Number of elevations being worked
  • Access ladder secured to the structure
  • Hire period — most PV installs need 2–4 weeks of hire
  • Whether the scaffold needs to span a conservatory or extension

When scaffolding is required

  • All residential PV installations over 2m eaves
  • Battery storage installs where roof access is needed
  • Panel replacement and PV repair works
  • Commercial roof-mount installations

Benefits of professional scaffolding

  • Meets HSE Working at Height requirements
  • Installer can focus on the install, not the access
  • Safer than roof ladders for panel and battery work
  • Required by most installer-trade insurers

Frequently asked questions

How quickly can scaffolding be up for a PV install?

Standard install windows are 3–5 working days from confirming the quote — quicker where install dates are tight.

Do I really need scaffolding for a solar install?

For any pitched-roof install over 2m, HSE expects edge-protected scaffolding to be in place. Tower scaffolds and roof ladders alone don't meet the guidance.

Can the scaffold come down the day the install finishes?

Yes — we'll book the strike-down to suit your install schedule so the scaffold isn't sitting on site longer than needed.
